‘OpenAI is Working on X-like Social Media Network,’ According to Reports

Another innovation by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is working on its social network sites like Elon Musk’s X and Mark Zuckerberg’s Instagram. As per the report, OpenAI is secretly building the platform and it is in its early phase.

While all the features are not shared openly, OpenAI has reportedly built an internal prototype focused on ChatGPT’s image generation with a social feed. It is still not clear if the company is planning to create a standalone app or if it will be integrated into the ChatGPT app.

The intentions of OpenAI to enter the social networking landscape are not clear. Still, some believe it could be connected to the company’s latest image generator powered by GPT-40, which went live last month. This tool lets users create Studio Ghibli-inspired images with a simple prompt.

This feature has immediately taken the world by storm and allows users to turn everyday clients into anime-style images and OpenAI is considering expanding into a social media project. The varied range of image-generation tools and their effect on users started a continuous trend of memes, movie stills, and edgy images turning cute. This might be the driving factor pushing OpenAI to venture into the idea of social networks.

In February, OpenAI shared its weekly active users had increased by 400 million, while its paying business users were more than 2 million.

In March the company announced that it had successfully raised funding of $40 billion in the latest round, which made the company worth around $300 billion.

The news of OpenAI working on its social platform came when Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg was testifying in an antitrust case against the FTC. it alleged that Meta acquired all the smaller rival companies to hold its power and create a monopoly in the social media markets. The historic antitrust case threatened to destroy the $1.3 trillion empire of the company.
