The 26 year old won the silver medal for weight lifting in the 49kg category
Day two of the Tokyo Olympics saw India opening its account at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics! Mirabai Chanu won the silver medal in weightlifting in the 49kg category. It has been 21 years since India won a medal in weightlifting. “Mirabai Chanu had left with a promise – earlier she had told me and she had later reiterated -that she would win a medal for the country from Tokyo (Olympics)”, said Law Minister Kiren Rijiju. Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has announced that Mirabhai’s coach Vijay Sharma is to be given a cash reward of 10 lakh.
