Philippines President Marcos Jr. is coming to India with First Lady Louise Araneta Marcos and a high-level delegation comprising Cabinet Ministers and senior officials. This will be his first visit to India as the President.
He is on a five-day visit to the country. And it coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. The diplomatic relations between India and the Philippines were established in 1949. Both nations share strong relations across trade and investment, maritime cooperation, agriculture, healthcare, digital services, and pharmaceuticals.
During the visit, President Marcos will meet PM Modi for bilateral discussions. He will also meet President Droupadi Murmu and External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar. Later, the Philippines’ president will also visit Bengaluru before leaving.
Before leaving for India, the Philippines’ president described India as a valued friend and also shared democratic values, maritime interests, and regional peace from the foundation of a deeper, broader, and stronger corporation with the country.
As shared by the Philippines’ president, the purpose of this visit is to reach concrete benefits for the common people of the Philippines, such as cost-effective medicines, better digital and physical connectivity, and better food security. Further, both sides will share their thoughts on regional and global issues of mutual interest.
The external affairs ministry emphasizes that the Philippines is a major partner in India’s Act East Policy, Vision MAHASAGAR, and Indo-Pacific strategy. The relation between India and the Philippines is beyond strategic interest; it is also focused on deep historical and cultural values.
The last meeting of PM Modi and the Philippines president was on the sidelines of the 21st ASEAN-India Summit. This visit sets the opportunities for both national leaders to build the future path for bilateral cooperation and grow together.
