How Businesses Win When Everyone’s Scrolling, and No One’s Watching

Small-sized video has become the primary form of contemporary marketing in a world where attention spans are short. Scrolls never stop because of their dopamine-based slot machine, which shows content in a user’s feed based on the accounts they have followed and the type of content they have interacted with. We are all part of this evolving digital dance, whether you are one of the ones making this content or just consuming it. Making those brief moments memorable is crucial for marketers and entrepreneurs, while audiences just enjoy the content that seems tailored to them.

The boundaries between advertising, storytelling, and entertainment have blurred, making this era’s branding so fascinating. Whether you’re behind the camera or behind the screen, small content holds a significant impact.

Play the Algorithm Game

Social media sites use algorithms to maintain users’ attention through their dopamine-based method. Therefore, the system will ensure that you receive more sports car content if you follow an account named “Classy Chassis” and have “liked” a few posts about sports cars.

Consider using this idea to promote your own branding. Your focus should be on people who are interested in what you have to offer to see your material. People will do, and for that you need to invest a great deal of time and attention in the art and science of “playing the algorithm.” Here, the main issue is that every social site holds its own unique algorithm. None of these sites openly share how they work; hence, exploiting them is a puzzle.

However, there are two fundamental rules businesses should follow to win in this scrolling era.

Post information regularly, if possible every day.

Check the hashtags you use and choose the most well-liked and industry-aligned ones in your posts.

Social media sites take advantage of the dopamine-seeking impulse. While browsing, the user believes that the next scroll will reveal something interesting or worthwhile. Include that something in your post.

If you offer something interesting or helpful, it is great, but it won’t draw attention if it isn’t delivered well.

Design for the Human Brain

The social media image design is another crucial factor. By nature, humans are made to notice three aspects that you should keep in mind while creating your social media content. First, a face: people generally notice three dots to perceive a face; anything in the “two eyes and mouth” configuration allows people to identify an expression even when nothing is visible. Many people will take pause seeing a face in text. Color is still noticeable and important to modern beings. The ability to recognize and evaluate movement is another profound and old survival trait.

There are two major factors: when we observe anything moving, we keep a close eye on it to understand whether it holds any kind of threat, and if it’s a predator whose attention we want to avoid, we stop moving. Motion holds the potential to draw attention to your content.

Use the technology in your favor. Various molecules can keep readers on a particular post, but dopamine keeps them scrolling.

The Hormones Hacks You Don’t Know

Oxytocin, also considered the “cuddle hormone,” effectively increases the popularity of a product or material on the internet.

Oxytocin basically makes us feel loving when we see adorable things. It boosts the trust emotion in the mind and also reduces the likelihood of scrolling. This is another way you can win in this scrolling-driven world.

Plan your strategy around your brand and how your content can capitalize on our neurochemistry.

Just like dopamine, serotonin is another “happy” hormone that is produced from different stimuli, including music. Although not all social media platforms are optimized for audio content, many work. By using music to induce the right hormones, you can easily engage your audience and help them connect with your brand.
