On 1st August, the 71st National Film Awards 2025 were announced, celebrating and recognizing the best of Indian cinema from 2023, by acknowledging the top performances across acting, music, direction, and production. While Hindi cinema has shown its significant positions with numerous awards, Malayalam cinema has also emerged with several honors across different categories.
Shah Rukh Khan won the Best Actor Award for Jawan jointly with Vikrant Massey for his film 12th Film. Rani Mukerji has been honored with the Best Actress award for her remarkable performance in Mrs. Chatterjee vs. Norway.
The Director of the Kerala Story, Sudipto Sen, won the Best Direction award. The film has also won the Best Cinematography Award. Vicky Kaushal’s Sam Bahadur got the National Awards in three categories, including Best Makeup, Best Film Promoting National, Social, and Environmental Values, and Best Costume Designer. Films like Animal, 12th Fail, and Rocky Aur Rani ki Prem Kahaani got two awards in different categories.
71st National Film Awards 2025 Highlights:
- Directed by Karan Johar, Rocky and Rani Kii Prem Kahaani won the award for the Best Popular Film offering Wholesome Entertainment.
- Vijayaraghavan and Muthupettai Somu Bhaskar have been honored with the Best Supporting Actor award.
- Janki Bodiwala and Urvashi won the Best Supporting Actress honors.
- V. Prakash Kumar got the National Film Award for his incredible music in Vaathi, winning his second national award.
- Shilpa Raw got the Best Female Playback Singer Award for her song in Jawan.
- PVN Rohith won the Best Male Playback Singer category for his song Premisthunna.
- Kathal has been awarded as the Best Hindi Film
- Parking got the Best Tamil Film honor
- Bhagavanth Kesari has been given the Best Telugu Film award
- Ullozhukku by Christo Tomy won the Best Malayalam Film award.
- The Best Assamese Film has been given to Rongatpu 1982.
- Deep Fridge got the Best Gujarati Film award
